The Community Housing Initiative aims to provide sustainable, affordable housing solutions for families in rural Uganda who have been displaced by natural disasters or live in inadequate conditions. Our approach focuses on community-led construction, using locally sourced materials and training local workers in modern building techniques.
This project began in 2020 after severe flooding displaced over 200 families in the eastern region. Since then, we've completed 42 homes and have plans to build 30 more in the next year. Each home is designed to withstand extreme weather conditions and includes water harvesting systems and solar power capabilities.
Beyond just building houses, this initiative creates jobs, trains local workers in construction skills, and strengthens community bonds. Each home becomes a center of stability that allows families to focus on education, health, and economic opportunities.
